I never would have guessed you met that way. But why were you homeless at the time?
[ He caught the news that Danny Rand had turned up alive in passing but it wasn't like the news announced the events leading up to that press meeting. ]
The first time I dated was back in high school. It didn't last very long since I was still living at an orphanage at the time and the nuns there weren't that keen on allowing us to bring dates back home with us. It actually might have been for the best that it didn't get very serious. She wouldn't stop making a big deal out of the blindness. It was awkward. But I definitely learned from the experience.
We can certainly try to make up for each others' weaknesses at least.
It was when I first arrived in New York, I traveled all the way from the Himalayas. It wasn't until I managed to speak to J-money that she told me I was a billionaire, right after things went south with Ward and Joy. I had to prove them I was Danny Rand so they would listen to me.
Oh! You probably know J-money as Jeri Hogarth, she's a lawyer too. [Right, because all lawyers of Manhattan know each other. Well thought, Danny.] Don't let her aloof behavior fool you, she's a real sweetheart. And please never tell her I said that, she would step on my balls in vengeance.
I had no idea you lived in an orphanage, that must not have been easy. Sorry to hear about her, sometimes even people who have the best intentions make things more complicated than they need to be. I never really went to high school. Kinda wish I had now. That or college. Ward probably wouldn't call me an idiot so often if I did.
J-Money? [ Matt chuckled at that. Danny paints a very different picture of Hogarth compared to what Matt had heard before. ] Yeah I've heard of Jeri Hogarth. She's been Jessica's lawyer before and- [ He backs up. No need to bring up the details of the more complicated connection he has to Hogarth now. As far as he knows Danny hasn't even been properly introduced to Foggy. ] I've worked some pro-bono cases that her firm needed to outsource. I'm glad you had that connection still. I know it's difficult for people to talk to the leaders of large companies even when they have more than a good enough reasons to.
It's not to late for you to go back to school if you really want to. Other adults do it all time. You can ask your secretary to look into how to earn your GED.
Yes, she's an old family friend. My father and she had a story. [It takes Danny a second to realize how that might have sounded.] Not like they did anything together! I mean...My dad gave Jeri her first job and I knew her when I was little. I was lucky to find her when I came back, for the last 15 years she took care of my family's estate and their graves. It's really weird to see your own tombstone, let me tell you.
[Danny saw Foggy at the precinct but they didn't get to talk to each other. No one was really in the mood for proper introductions.]
That's, uhm....an exam, right? [This is exactly why he feels stupid, Danny's aware he's lacking some serious basic knowledge.]
It sounds like she really cares about you and your family. Your father must have had good instincts, giving her a chance to start out at your company. [ He wonders how much of this story Jessica knows what with all her grumbles when Hogarth came up in conversation. Then again, it was Jessica speaking and she could admire and begrudge the same person easily. ]
That's right. Passing the GED exam earns you the equivalent of a high diploma. Then if you want to continue your education you can look into colleges.
[ooc: Hi! And likewise, i enjoyed their conversation a lot. If you ever want to do anything with them, feel free to pm. I also just started to keep a meme track post on Danny's journal so there's a list of the memes he's in.]

I like that plan.

[Admiration and resentment often go hand in hand with Jeri, or that's what Danny has heard. He likes the woman but he's a tad biased in that regard.]
I'll look into it, it does seem like the best place to start. Thank you, Matt.

Happy I could help. It's good to talk to you Danny.
[ ooc: I'll keep an eye out for you on memes but if there's ever a specific meme or PSL you'd like to thread with Matt then feel free to message me! ]
